The Town of Stony Plain has a full-time permanent position available for a Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level I. Under the direction of the Peace Officer Supervisor, the CPO will be responsible for enforcing Town Bylaws, including Animal Control and Provincial Statutes for which they are empowered. They will respond to and investigate complaints, conduct vehicle, bike and foot patrols to ensure public compliance with various Town Bylaws and Provincial Statutes. The CPO will liaise with and assist the RCMP and other external agencies with public education and public safety.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a high school diploma education or equivalent, combined with a minimum of two years of practical experience. A diploma in Law Enforcement will be considered as an asset. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills, strong customer service skills and be highly competent in exercising the use of discretion, tact and diplomacy in dealing with public complaints and inquiries. Applicants must possess and/or qualify for a current CPO Level 1 appointment. A current PARE certificate, Defensive Tactics training course, and OC Certification are required. Radar and laser certification, as well as valid First Aid certification will be considered an asset. As a condition of employment, the candidate must provide a Driver’s Abstract and must be able to pass a comprehensive security clearance for access to the RCMP Detachment. A current RCMP clearance is preferred.

Based on a 40-hour work week, the salary range for this position is $77,025 - $97,997. Successful candidates must be willing to work a rotational schedule comprising of days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays and must have the ability to meet the physical demands of this position.
