Community Peace Officer Level 1
Two (2) Casual Positions

Reporting to the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement, the Community Peace Officer Level I is responsible for enforcing provincial statutes and municipal bylaws for the City of Fort Saskatchewan and  investigating inquiries and public complaints including animal control.

Officers are responsible for traffic safety using conventional traffic enforcement, radar, laser/LIDAR and photo laser enforcement, and driver feedback signs; conduct directed or pro-active bike, foot and vehicle patrols; investigate inquiries or complaints from general public including animal control and animal protection complaints; prepare written reports and court documents, give testimony and present evidence in Court. Community Peace Officers may be deployed to work independently or in teams.

This position requires a minimum of a two year Law Enforcement College Diploma or University Degree in a related field or equivalent experience within the law enforcement field. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in Alberta legislation and municipal laws; Justice System proceedings; and currently be appointed as a Community Peace Officer Level 1 by Alberta Justice and Solicitor General. A minimum of two years’ experience working in Municipal Enforcement or related field is required. Candidates must currently possess and retain an RCMP enhanced reliability security check; be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Current Radar/LIDAR certification; certification through the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association; knowledge of RCMP protocols and systems; and enhanced authorities granted by Alberta Justice and Solicitor General are considered assets.

The successful candidates must have passed a physical fitness (PARE) test current within the last 3 months. A valid Alberta driver’s license is required and the candidate must be available to work various shifts.

This position is casual in nature and therefore the number hours of work cannot be forecasted.  

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.  A current five year driver’s abstract will be required at the time of interview.

Rate of Pay:    $39.29 - $43.18 per hour

Hours of Work:   Varying shifts including days, nights, weekends    
                    (number of hours cannot be forecasted)
