The Community Standards Peace Officer Section is seeking an individual with demonstrated supervisory skills to lead a team of Animal Care and Control Officers.

You will be responsible to:

Provide guidance and direction on enforcement policies and procedures

Review daily activities to maximize utilization of staff resources and effective delivery of services

Conduct reviews of enforcement and administrative policies and processes and recommend improvements; develop appropriate responses to emergent enforcement issues

Handle complex and sensitive investigations and investigate issues arising from enforcement actions

Provide basic training and orientation to staff, as well as ongoing education to upgrade knowledge and skills; engage in timely and appropriate discipline of conduct or performance issues when required

Deal with complaints and inquiries from internal and external stakeholders

Manage administrative matters and resolve internal conflicts or personnel matters

Related duties as required

Completion of a 2 year diploma in Law Enforcement, or a related field such as Security or Criminology

A minimum of 5 years of strong customer service experience

A minimum of 3 years of diverse law enforcement experience

A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related supervisory capacity

Must be able to be sworn as a Municipal Bylaw Officer and must possess the Provincial Community Peace Officer Level I or Level II designation

Animal handling or animal control experience is an asset

Proof of attaining the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)

Possession of valid Standard First Aid and Basic CPR certificates and AED qualified

Ability to work in a demanding and challenging environment with a high level of interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, develop, and mentor staff

Extensive knowledge of the Animal Control legislation, operating policies and procedures, customer service standards, investigational techniques and practices

Demonstrated ability in exercising good judgment, tact and diplomacy in dealing with discipline or conduct issues

Excellent communication, organization, time management and prioritization skills are required

Excellent writing skills to prepare accurate reports

Proficiency in the use of computer software skills with a preference for experience in POSSE, MOVES, and FINE applications

Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement for this position

Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Salary: $39.992 - $41.243 (Hourly); $83,503 - $86,115 (Annually)
