The Regional Enforcement Services department is looking for a full time Sergeant to supervise the Level 1 Community Peace Officers in our Patrol Unit. Reporting to the Manager of Enforcement Services you will be a member of the leadership team working alongside other Peace Officer, Bylaw and RCMP supervisors to ensure the day to day operations of the Regional Enforcement Services department are being safely and lawfully carried out. Some shift work, evenings, weekends and statutory holiday work is required.


Acceptable drivers abstract;
Capable of obtaining a full Level 1 Community Peace Officer appointment;
Extensive experience with Alberta provincial statutes, Traffic Safety Act, commercial vehicle weights and dimension legislation, infrastructure protection and regulatory municipal bylaws;
Experience with Provincial and Commissioner’s Court Docket proceedings;
Training and experience supervising law enforcement personnel;
Capable of successfully completing the approved physical abilities test (PARE) at a time of 4:45;
Capable of successfully passing the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Enhanced Background screening checks and the RCMP certified criminal reliability check.
Preference may be given to those applicants who have:

Extensive knowledge and experience of the Alberta Peace Officer program;
Been serving within the past three years as a supervisory Peace or Police Officer in Alberta;
Extensive knowledge and experience with Traffic Safety, Traffic Safety Plans, and the traffic Safety Calendar;
Training within the past three years in ASP baton, OC spray, and PPCT;
Experience with large Special Event policing and scheduling;
Training and experience with radar and laser;
Emergency vehicle operator’s experience and training certification (EVOC);
Supervisory and leadership training from an approved post-secondary institution;
AMHSA Leadership for Safety Excellence training;
Experience and training with computers and programs (such as ROADS/MOVES, JOIN, CPIC).

The successful applicant will have sound judgment and excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates that are short-listed will be invited to write the County of Grande Prairie Peace Officer Sergeants Examination.

Salary: $77,404 - $99,108 annually
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Position Type: Salaried, non-management
