Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for enforcing the provision of bylaws passed by City Council, and the provision of appointed status under the Peace Officer Program as directed by the Solicitor General of Alberta. The incumbent assists and works cooperatively with the RCMP, Fish & Wildlife, Parks, and other allied policing agencies, municipal area partners, internal municipal departments and the community. He/she investigates bylaw complaints and disputes, and ensures appropriate resolutions either by fine, order or education. This position reports to the Peace Officer Sergeant.

- Provide enforcement of Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Status, Acts and Regulations.
- Participate in local educational programs as they relate to public safety.
- Adhere to the requirement and directive as outlined under the appointment of Solicitor General of Alberta and municipality authorization to employ Peace Officers.
- Ensure all law enforcement activities are conducted in a manner that demonstrates professionalism, respect and regard for public health and safety.
- Attend public events to maintain and preserve the public peace.
- Educate and inform the public of the role and responsibilities of Peace Officers.
- Deliver proactive prevention and education programs to schools and community groups.

We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven abilities to liaise with internal and external governments/municipal departments, RCMP and other community services, clients and staff members to achieve positive results.
- The ability to express ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively.
- The ability to function as a member of a team or perform duties and responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.
- The ability to maintain an enhanced level of confidentiality.
- Ability to deal with the public in confrontational situations.
- Knowledge of Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Acts and Regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of court procedures.
- Solid knowledge of City Bylaws, Alberta Statutes, Acts and Regulations.

Skills:
- Intermediate Level - excel, word, outlook, L3, Houston Radar, Watchguard, binoculars, radio communications,
- Intermediate Level - MOVES/ROADS, radar, Lidar, B1360
- Advanced Level - report exec software.

Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary Diploma/degree in Law Enforcement or Accredited Police Training or equivalent – proof of educational certification is required.
- Peace Officer Level 1 appointment.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in enforcement, security or military related experience.
- PPCT certification.
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
- RCMP Reliability security clearance.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
- Hire is dependent upon a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector/Child Intervention Check satisfactory to the City of Spruce Grove.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business.
