Municipal Enforcement Officer II - City of Edmonton

Working with neighbourhood citizens and businesses to ensure community standards are maintained through the inspection and enforcement of municipal bylaws. Here you will resolve complex situations, conduct investigations, and interpret and apply multiple bylaws and legislation. We offer a work environment full of professional development opportunities.

As a Municipal Enforcement Officer you will:
Generate compliance and cooperation by educating the public through explanation of bylaws, policies, and procedures
Educate citizens and promote community stewardship for property standards, licensing bylaws and specialty enforcement initiatives
Conduct investigations to verify and satisfy appropriate legislative and regulatory provisions
Respond to and process a high volume of complaints
Assess the health, safety and quality of citizen life by conducting physical inspections on property conditions, people, places, activities, or events
Collect and transport evidence
Determine appropriate enforcement actions: issue written or verbal warnings, violation or specified penalty tickets, clean up orders or weed notices
Prepare files and court briefs; provide evidence in court as required
Completion of a recognized 2 year Diploma related to Police Studies, Security, Criminology or related diploma is required
A minimum of 3 years of strong customer service experience is required, including 1 year of diverse bylaw and/or law enforcement experience
Ability to pass internal training program, which includes Officer Safety tactics
Knowledge of investigative techniques, bylaws, enforcement powers and authority, court proceedings, and rules of evidence
Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, professionalism and diplomacy in dealing with the public
Effective conflict resolution and investigative skills; ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues on a continuous basis
Ability to maintain professional and respectful during confrontational and hostile situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking, report writing, letter composition, stakeholder agency presentations, presentation preparation, and court presentations
Proficiency in computer programs such as Google Mail, Microsoft Office and enforcement database systems
Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and re-prioritize work
Experience using enforcement databases and proficient in the use of computer software and various computer applications
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: $36.357 - $45.594 (Hourly); $64,051.94 - $80,325.23 (Annually)
