It's not just about enforcing the rules. The Community Standards Peace Officer is responsible to carry out daily duties and responsibilities of the Community Standards Peace Officer Unit which provides investigation and enforcement services to the general public, industry and City Departments. All of this contributes to a safer Edmonton. You will be responsible to:

Deliver city wide Community Services Peace Officer Enforcement services
Conduct detailed investigations relating to public inquiries and officer initiated complaints and concerns
Be deployed as a resource to meet operational and special events requirements
Support Capital City Clean-Up, Transportation Services, Vehicle for Hire, business and community league initiatives, unsecured load enforcement and Traffic Bylaw enforcement strategies
Conduct moving vehicle traffic stops in adherence to Department policy and the Solicitor General's guidelines regarding the use of Emergency Vehicles for enforcing moving violations under the Traffic Safety Act
Interview and obtain statements from complainants, witnesses and defendants
Gather and prepare evidence from a variety of sources
Determine appropriate enforcement action; seek voluntary compliance or issue warnings and penalty tickets
Establish and maintain accurate paper and electronic records and files
Prepare letters, reports and court documents; present evidence in court
Conduct mobile patrols to ensure adherence to Municipal and Provincial legislation
Other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12
Completion of a recognized Diploma related to Law Enforcement, Security or Criminology
Minimum 3 years of strong customer service experience is required along with 1 year of diverse law enforcement experience
Ability to obtain and retain Community Peace Officer I Provincial designation; must successfully pass the P.A.R.E. physical fitness test
A proven ability to work well within a unionized workforce
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to experience in public speaking; excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills required
Experience in conducting moving violation enforcement and uniformed enforcement, commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement are assets
Must be able to work independently on confidential and complex issues
Strong team player with the ability to work independently and act as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton
Knowledge of operational and tactical planning, communication and good computer literacy
Professional knowledge in the Community Peace Officer Area, provincial requirements and standards
Knowledge of City of Edmonton policies and procedures, law and the provincial Community Peace Officer Program

Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); eligible to obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit

Salary: $34.693 $39.738 (Hourly); $72,438.98 - $82,972.94 (Annually)
