Bring a sense of security to Edmonton’s Transit System and join our team in the Transit Security section of City Operations. The Transit Peace Officers within the City ensure the public have safe trips while using and waiting for Edmonton Transit Services.  You will learn how to respond and resolve diverse situations that occur on a daily basis, will be given ample training throughout your career to help you become a well rounded enforcement officer, and get to work with a close team of Peace Officers.

Responsibilities include:

Respond to security emergencies, incidents, and general complaints that occur at any ETS facility or on ETS property
Ensure ETS facilities are secure and patrons are safe by conducting routine preventative patrols of ETS property and reporting immediately any potential or actual risks or losses
Ensure ETS customer service needs are met by providing transit information such as required fares or location stops; responding to injury reports within transit facilities; and assisting passengers who are disabled or who become injured while traveling
Exercise discretionary law enforcement powers under federal and provincial legislation, the Municipal Bylaws Act, the Transit Bylaw, the Public Places Bylaw and the Traffic Bylaw; issue tickets for bylaw violations; arrest and detain violators as required. Follow-up with Edmonton Police Service as required
Provide escorts, monitoring and protection for moving and handling cash, fare media, materials or equipment
Collect information and evidence to support court proceedings, insurance claims, and Security and Risk Management activities. Give testimony or evidence in court as required
Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:
In order to be successful in your new role, you will utilize your strong customer service skills with your attention to detail to learn the layout of the downtown, write accurate reports, take the initiative to prevent situations, and ensure you are visible for the safety of your fellow team-mates and the public.  In order to achieve this, you have:  

Completed a recognized diploma related to Police Studies, Security or Criminology and a minimum of 3 years of strong customer service experience with at least 1 year of diverse law enforcement experience OR Grade 12 and 5 years of enforcement experience in a recognized policing environment; must have been a serving Police Officer in Canada within the past five (5) years
Possession of valid Standard First Aid and Basic CPR certificates and AED qualified
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
Knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation and basic principles of loss prevention
Knowledge of powers of arrest
Understanding of officer safety techniques
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to defuse potentially volatile situations, and to recognize and react appropriately to dangerous situations
Ability to use current computer software including word processing and databases
Hire is dependent on a cleared Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton with an Enhanced Police Information Check completed during probation

Applicants will be required to provide:
A current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of application) indicating at least a Class 5 Licence and showing no suspensions and no more than 7 demerits recorded over the previous 3 year period
Copies of current certification in Standard First Aid and Basic CPR and AED
Proof of attaining the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)

Successful candidates will be subject to successfully obtaining / completing:
Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Officer Status and the Provincial Community Peace Officer I designation

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Salary: $35.862 - $39.737 (Hourly); $74,879.860 - $82,970.860 (Annually)
